The new web site is at http://www.friendsofthephasmid.org.au this site has all the lastest information about the breeding program and activities of the friends. Insektus is to breed this rare and endangered insect, that Stephen calls the long lost Phasmid, once a number of these insects have been bred some will be used in live educational displays on Lord Howe Island, information on the breeding program will be given in educational talks to schools, environmental groups, TAFE and Universities. This is truly a fascinating creature, how did it survive for so long? Learn more about conservation issues for this endangered species. Habitats contain all kinds of creatures, including us, by studying the long lost phasmid we may discover its serect for survival and who knows what else, but what I do know is by protecting the environment in which it lives we are ensuring that all life is protected on Ball's Pyramid. The file below has information about the "Friends of the long Lost Phasmid Inc. and a membership application form. We are at present a small group, dedicated to the breeding of the LHI stick insect and the wider meaning this could have for conservation, biodiversity and all threatened species; whether it is a bird or even an insect. I will be building a new web site especially for the Friends and doing more educational shows for school kids, also I have put up two new photos, the first shows the lastest LHI Phasmid, hatched on the 21 August 2006 and the second is the housing. I would also like to ask if anyone has the time to volunteer some help with the web site or in the office or if your interested in giving talks- please contact us as your help would be greatly appreciated.
